SUMMARY:ABNY Talks: New New Yorkers and an Emerging Workforce
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, September 27 for an ABNYTalks with four leaders from NYC’s workforce and immigration service sectors. With the recent influx of asylum seekers\, the city is increasing resources to meet the demands of its newest New Yorkers. Meeting housing\, education and social service needs has been a challenge but what does this mean for economic integration and pathways for contributions towards the city’s economic viability? Is the increased demand for jobs in line with current workforce development offerings and what does this mean for the city’s overall economic development? This panel of experts will explore ways in which these challenges are – and are not – being addressed. \nTo view the full discussion click here. \nTo view photos from the event click here.

SUMMARY:ABNY Joins Mayor Adams and NYPD in Effort to Decrease Car Theft in New York City
DESCRIPTION:New York\, NY – Today\, ABNY Chairman Steven Rubenstein and ABNY CEO Melva M. Miller joined New York City Mayor Eric Adams and leadership at the New York City Police Department (NYPD) in an effort to decrease car theft numbers in New York City. ABNY donated 500 Apple AirTags that will be distributed to car owners in New York City to ensure that stolen cars can be easily tracked\, and to provide a theft deterrent. The new effort was unveiled in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx\, one of the neighborhoods hardest hit by auto theft.   \nWhile many of the major crime categories in New York City have steadily decreased under Mayor Adams’ leadership — including the most violent crimes — grand larceny auto continues to increase. On Sunday\, the Mayor outlined several measures and tips for car owners to prevent the theft of their vehicle. \nSee the full announcement here.

SUMMARY:ABNYChats: Talking New York City Planning and Housing
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Thursday\, February 9 at 1:00 p.m. for an ABNY Chats with City Planning Chair Dan Garodnick and John Sanchez\, Executive Director of the 5 Borough Housing Movement\, to discuss the future of housing in New York City. \nMr. Garodnick will present Mayor Adams’ vision for a more inclusive\, equitable “City of Yes” and the administration’s proposal to convert unused office space into new apartments for New Yorkers. The recommendations include a goal of relaxing residential conversion regulations for office buildings constructed through 1990\, which would allow for easier conversion of offices built between the 1960s and 1980s. \nImmediately following Chairman Garodnick’s presentation\, he will be joined by 5 Borough Housing Movement Executive Director John Sanchez for a “fireside chat” on the plan’s outcome for a more fair and equitable city. \nThe 5 Borough Housing Movement is a coalition focused on expanding the supply of affordable housing at a time when the City faces a dire housing crisis by advocating for: \n\nEnabling Office-to-Residential Conversions;\nLifting the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) Cap; and\nHelping New Conversions to Deliver Affordable Housing.\n\nSee the full discussion here and view images from the event here.
