DESCRIPTION:We are excited to invite you to an exclusive tour of Governors Island on Friday\, August 13 from 3:00 PM – 6:15 PM. We will convene at 3:00 PM at Battery Park Maritime Building Ferry Terminal at 10 South Street. The walking tour of Governors Island will be led by Sarah Krautheim\, Vice President\, Public Affairs\, and Alex Brady\, Director of Real Estate and Planning at The Trust for Governors Island\, followed by complimentary drinks at Taco Vista. \nGovernors Island\, only open to the public from May through October\, is a 172-acre island in the heart of New York Harbor. This tour will offer the opportunity to learn more about Governors Island‘s transformation from a military base closed to the public for nearly two centuries into a vibrant destination with a resilient-designed park\, and the Trust’s plans to activate it year-round with educational\, nonprofit\, and commercial facilities. Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Trust for Governors Island recently announced a competition to establish a center for climate solutions\, which will create an educational and research hub dedicated to preparing cities for climate change \nIf you are interested\, please sign up here by 9:00 AM on Monday\, August 11. DESCRIPTION:We are excited to invite you to an American Institute of Architects New York (AIA New York) walking tour of SoHo on Tuesday\, August 24\, from 6:00-8:00 PM. Tim Hayduk\, Lead Design Educator with AIA New York\, will walk YPs through the neighborhood\, exploring its rich history and distinctive mid-19th century architecture\, as well as creative examples of adaptive reuse\, urban planning\, and development. \nThis tour will contextualize the discussion around the SoHo/NoHo Neighborhood Plan to establish a new special district to modernize the area’s zoning\, which entered the City’s formal public review process (ULURP) in May 2021. We will view some of the recent buildings approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission as appropriate for inclusion within the district as well as significant historic sites to examine a range of design strategies for historic districts. \nIf you are interested\, please sign up here by Wednesday\, August 18. Please note\, space is limited and attendees will be selected at random.
