Chief Monahan discussed public safety as the city reopens and New Yorkers return to the office, subways, restaurants, entertainment destinations, and more.
In 1971, ABNY’s founder, Lew Rudin, gathered a group of private sector leaders around a breakfast table to discuss how they could alleviate the financial and social ills plaguing the residents, workers, and communities of New York City. Today, that tradition continues and has become a New York institution known as the ABNY “Power Breakfast.”
ABNY breakfasts host hundreds of New Yorkers from both the private and public sectors. The breakfasts create an environment that generates conversation and inspires action around tough local, state, and national issues. ABNY breakfasts offer an opportunity for elected and government officials, as well as civic and business leaders, to present the ideas and policies they believe can help foster a better New York.
Always lively, timely, and informative, topics discussed at breakfasts range from the economy and security to education and culture. ABNY events, which always include time for networking, provide a critical window for all New Yorkers to come together in common cause. Countless ABNY members have benefited from contacts made at our events, which have helped them to develop and expand their operations.
Moving forward, ABNY will use its signature programs–Power Events, special briefings, educational events, Young Professionals programming, ABNY Women events, and special projects– to bolster civic engagement for all New Yorkers. ABNY Power Events will continue to offer an opportunity for elected and government officials, as well as civic and business leaders, to present the ideas and policies they believe can help foster a better New York. The ABNY Young Professionals network will use happy hours and networking platforms, online and in person, to maintain a unique opportunity for the future leaders of New York City to explore the importance of civic engagement and learn about the critical issues facing our city and state. ABNY Women will expand its platform for women to explore, discuss, and foster change in the workplace and beyond through a series of events and talks by female leaders. And ABNY special projects will build on the foundation created by the Census 2020 effort and work with community-based organizations to support and strengthen our most vulnerable New Yorkers and communities.
