Please note the 2024 Priority Areas of Giving in the theme of Strengthening Economic Opportunity and Livability for New Yorkers:

Safe Communities 

  • Programs that foster safe communities by seeking to reduce or prevent crimes and dangers, and that support safe, vibrant, and inclusive public spaces for New Yorkers.
  • Grants will prioritize:
    • Programs that stabilize communities whose members are disproportionally impacted by crime and adverse effects of the criminal justice system.
    • Community-based programs focusing on formerly incarcerated re-entry programs, crime and violence prevention, and community/police relations.
    • Local-based programs or services that are implemented to enhance the real and perceived safety and vibrancy of the public realm and public gathering spaces.
  • Examples include (1) support for violence interrupters, job placement for gang members, re-entry programs, and (2) arts or culture-based events, street outreach services, physical improvements that improve accessibility and safety for community members, services that enhance the cleanliness or beautification of a space.
    • Note: Stand-alone or one-day events are not eligible for funding.

Small Business Innovation

  • Programs that support small business with resources to help them operate, sustain, and grow, and encourage innovation:
  • Grants will prioritize:
    • Programs that support small businesses in commercial corridors and business districts with high retail and office vacancies.
    • Programs that provide access to cutting edge technologies or operations for the purpose improving business operations and/or quality of life for New Yorkers.
  • Examples include (1) loan and grant application support; small business counseling and provision of technical assistance programs; commercial corridor revitalization; vacant storefront utilization programs, and (2) Solutions for AI integration and access to AI prerequisites (5G, education, etc); advanced manufacturing technologies; solutions that facilitate an accelerate implementation of clean teach initiatives (any process, product, or service that reduces negative environmental impacts through significant energy efficiency improvements, the sustainable use of resources, or environmental protection activities.)

Workforce Development 

  • Programs that foster economic growth by creating quality jobs, reducing inequality, and attracting, supporting, and retaining talent that support a viable and diverse New York City workforce and connect more New Yorkers to growing job opportunities.
  • Grants will prioritize:
    • Programs that create new career pathways for historically disconnected New Yorkers into growing industries, addressing persistent demographic disparities within key sectors of the city’s economy.
    • Programs that provide short-term on-the-job training and education, financial stipends, industry-specific accreditation or certifications, and direct job placement.
  • Examples include job training and placement assistance to unemployed and underemployed New Yorkers from communities with high unemployment rates; and training and job placement assistance that supports underrepresented New Yorkers’ entry into higher-earning industry sectors (e.g. Tech and STEM industries, Media production, etc.).

Guidelines

  • Funds shall be distributed for the inclusive economic growth of New York City to support the financial and physical well-being of New Yorkers, their communities and the organizations that serve them.
  • Awarded funds must be used for the operational and programmatic support of initiatives that directly support the above-stated theme and selected priority area.
  • Grants will prioritize small and midsize entities of 50 employees or less that provide direct services within the 5 boroughs of New York City.
  • Grant awards range from $5,000 to $15,000.
  • As grant applications are reviewed, organizations will be contacted by The ABNY Foundation. The Foundation may request additional information or schedule a follow-up phone call to verify the information provided.
  • Applying organizations will be eligible for one grant award per 12-month period.
  • Applying organizations should be designated under the 501(c) Section of the United States Internal Revenue Code or possess Fiscal Sponsorship from a registered 501(c)3 organization under the United States Internal Revenue Code. For profit organizations are not eligible for grants awards from The ABNY Foundation

Application deadlines for 2024:

  • Sunday, March 31
  • Monday,  September 30

Applications are due by midnight on the above dates. Applications will continue to be reviewed on a rolling basis.
