WHO WE ARE
The Association for a Better New York’s Young Professionals network (ABNY YP) aims to engage and inform our members about the importance of civic participation through social events, educational programming, and philanthropic initiatives. Since its launch in 2011, our group has grown to nearly 4,000 professionals from almost every sector across NYC.
The ABNY YP network provides an opportunity for young professionals to expand their professional contact bases and fosters educational and civic engagement opportunities to our next generation of leaders. These events are free of charge and programming varies from insider tours, to discussions with experts and industry leaders, to highlighting members of our community for our monthly Young Professional Spotlights.

YP ASSOCIATES
As part of the YP Strategic plan, ABNY created the ABNY YP Associates, a new membership structure for the ABNY Young Professionals (YP) program, designed to provide an additional level of engagement for members of the ABNY YP Network and create increased buy-in into the ABNY organization. This program is a dues-paying tier of the YP network, with an annual dues amount of $35 per year. YPs who are 40 years old and younger are eligible to become YP Associates. This membership tier affords YPs increased access to ABNY events and the ABNY network, including ticket giveaways for galas, Power Breakfasts, and other special events to be reserved for YP Associates; and early access to some exclusive YP events, such as ABNY Tours and Boardroom Breakfasts.

WHAT WE DO
What’s On Tap? events bring together YPs with public officials in an informal setting. YPs form connections with City and State leaders and learn more about how these individuals are impacting New York. What’s on Tap? events have featured leaders such as Eric Adams, Brooklyn Borough President, and Marisa Lago, City Planning Commission Chair, and Jonnel Doris, New York City Department of Small Business Services Commissioner.
Boardroom Breakfasts are an opportunity for civic leaders across the nonprofit, government, and private sectors to speak to YPs in an intimate setting about who they are, what they do, and their visions for New York City. Recently, MTA Inspector General Carolyn Pokorny and Executive Vice President, Public Affairs, Wildlife Conservation Society John Calvelli, addressed the YPs.
Policy Briefs outline New York City issues and current events. Previous topics include Changes to NYC Rent Regulations, Climate Change Litigation, and Ranked Choice Voting.
Tours provide YPs with access to exclusive spaces and projects across New York, such as Governors Island and the New York Federal Reserve Museum and Gold Vault.
ABNY Talks YP is an educational series where top experts and influencers deliver 101 explanations on complex urban and policy issues like Zoning and Land Use or Economic Development.
ABNY University events focus on professional development, instructing YPs “How to Work with Reporters and the Press” or “How to Prepare for Personal Financial Recovery Post-COVID 19.”
Dinner Dialogues are events where experts facilitate small group conversations around relevant, newsworthy, and potentially divisive topics. For example, YPs grappled with the complexities of the specialized high school admission process and the Amazon HQ2 Long Island City deal.
ABNY Volunteers facilitates volunteering opportunities for YPs to give back to their city. Volunteers have cleaned up Hudson River Park, served as mentors for New York City high school and middle school students, and promoted the 2020 Census, among other initiatives.
In addition, ABNY YPs have the opportunity to enter ticket giveaways to win complimentary tickets to ABNY’s signature Power Breakfasts, panels, galas, and other exclusive events across the city.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions and check out recent events on the ABNY Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages. Join ABNY’s Young Professionals by clicking this link!
STRATEGIC PLAN
In Spring 2021, ABNY and the YP Steering Committee Strategic Planning Subcommittee created a YP Strategic Plan aiming to set parameters around the current YP network and its governing body, integrate the YP network with the larger organization, create multiple levels of engagement and commitment, and expand relevant programming for the network.
