Veronica Rivas Plaza
My personal journey has been marked by my curious nature to explore urban landscapes. I find fascination when engaging with diverse urban contexts through methods such as navigating public transit or cycling because they serve as more than just modes of travel; they offer unique perspectives to see how a city moves. It is this blend of curiosity and passion, rooted in my personal experiences, that propels me in my work as an urban designer, placemaker, and transit planner.
I am proud of inspiring people in the early stages of their career. I have been approached by students while participating in design studio crits and conferences on how they can advance in their future career.
I would tell them to be bold in their design vision and don’t be afraid to test out ideas. Also to always keep in mind that the community you are designing for are the experts and they should be included as part of the process.
I moved to New York in 2008 from South America. After living here for a while, I realized I became a New Yorker when I stopped looking at the subway map for train connections and when I was able to navigate the city without google maps.
