I would not be where I am today without the support and guidance of my family, friends, mentors, colleagues, and peers. From a young age, my mother insisted I prioritize my education over everything else. I poured myself into my studies as a first generation college student, eventually obtaining my master’s in public health during the pandemic. Throughout my career, I’ve stayed curious and learned as much as I can from my brilliant peers and colleagues.
I am most proud of the fact that my work in communications has a real impact on public policy and public opinion. Communicators have a unique responsibility to tell stories and craft language that center humanity and lived experience. I take that responsibility seriously and I am proud of the work I do with my colleagues and clients to tell stories that dispel myths, break down stigma, and reduce harm. When it comes to mental health, this type of communications work is urgently needed, and I feel fortunate to spend my time and energy in this space.
Stay curious. Ask questions. Consider every conversation, meeting, and project an opportunity to expand your knowledge. Understand that you have something to learn from every person you encounter.
It was when I first began navigating the city by bike. There’s so much of New York you miss traveling underground!
