May: Improving Public Health
Congratulations to ABNY Young Professionals April Spotlights of the Month: Herbert Norat, Associate Director, Montefiore Einstein, who is being highlighted for their work supporting to improve public health access and outcomes for New Yorkers.

Herbert Norat
I was born and raised in the Bronx, and today, I work and raise my family in the same neighborhood. Working at Montefiore Einstein feels like a homecoming because I was seen at the Weiler Hospital many times, my sister-in-law received care from Einstein physicians when she gave birth, and I take my kids to the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore when they are sick.
During the Covid pandemic, I realized that many Bronxites do not have access to equitable healthcare, and it became my personal mission to engage in work that promotes community building and supporting health equity for folks across my home borough. Through my work at Montefiore Einstein, I secure essential funding for student needs and research while serving as a bridge builder between our vast network of physicians, students, and community stakeholders.
I am most proud of the three beautiful children that my partner and I are raising. Sofia, Sean, and Samantha bring me daily joy.
Remember your values and your “why” and do not be afraid to make an ask. You will find that many people want to be asked for help, and once they offer help, they are invested in your success.
Many mornings I helped my dad sweep up in front of his carpentry/upholstery shop on White Plains Road. I can still see him holding a Greek coffee cup in his hand while the elevated 2 roared by overhead. That pretty much sums up NY for me, hard work, hustle, and the omnipresent 2.
