How did you get to where you are today?

I was born and raised in Germany. Curiosity, adaptability, and a passion for the travel and transportation industry have shaped my journey from a very young age. I began my professional career with Deutsche Bahn AG, where I developed an appreciation for how transportation networks connect people, places, and opportunities.

In 2008, I moved to the United States to pursue higher education, earning both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees and opening the door to new professional opportunities. Over the past 16 years, I have built a rewarding career in the aviation industry, taking on diverse responsibilities, learning from talented teams, and embracing opportunities that challenged me to grow both professionally and personally.

Throughout my career, I have worn many hats, allowing me to develop a broad perspective across business operations, commercial strategy, business intelligence, contract management, safety and security, and airline and airport management. These experiences have helped me build a well-rounded understanding of the industry and the interconnected roles that contribute to successful airport operations.

Today, I bring together those experiences to support operational excellence and strategic initiatives. I also have the privilege of collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, including airport authorities, airline partners, concessionaires, and development teams, to help deliver projects and initiatives that enhance the passenger experience and support long-term growth.

My journey has taught me that career growth is rarely a straight line. It comes from staying curious, embracing change, building meaningful relationships, and being willing to step outside your comfort zone. Looking back, I am grateful for the opportunities that have shaped my path and excited for what lies ahead.

What are you most proud of?

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to contribute to multiple expansion projects at JFK Terminal 4, and today I am especially proud to have played a role in the $100M+ transformation of JetBlue’s flagship Terminal 5. This major redevelopment initiative is enhancing the airport’s commercial offerings and elevating the overall customer experience.

The T5 Refresh is delivering more than 40 new shops and restaurants, reimagining 40,000 square feet of space, and introducing a redesigned experience platform projected to generate more than $1.5 billion in sales over its first decade.

What makes these experiences particularly meaningful is the collaboration required to bring them to life. Working alongside stakeholders including the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), airline partners, concessionaires, designers, and development teams has reinforced the importance of aligning diverse perspectives around a shared vision. In my current role, I have the privilege of supporting strategic initiatives across both JFK Terminal 5 and Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal B, providing a unique perspective on the opportunities and challenges of two of the region’s most important aviation gateways.

Equally rewarding has been the opportunity to support philanthropic and community-driven initiatives focused on transportation access and individuals with special needs. These experiences have reinforced my belief that airports are more than transportation hubs. They are critical community assets that can improve mobility, foster inclusion, and create opportunities for people of all backgrounds and abilities.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to work in your field?

Early in your career, focus on building a strong foundation while remaining open to opportunities beyond your immediate area of expertise. Some of the most valuable lessons come from taking on unfamiliar challenges, collaborating across departments, and understanding how different functions contribute to the bigger picture.

I also encourage building meaningful relationships and learning from people with different backgrounds and experiences. Collaboration is essential in aviation, where successful projects depend on aligning multiple stakeholders around common goals.Be patient with your journey, embrace change, and let curiosity guide your growth.

When did you realize that you are a New Yorker?

I realized I had become a New Yorker when the city stopped feeling like a destination and started feeling like home. Working in aviation gave me a unique perspective on New York’s growth, resilience, and global connectivity. Seeing how JFK and Newark connect millions of travelers to the world strengthened my appreciation for the region.

What truly made me feel at home was New York’s diversity, energy, and ambition. Having moved here from Germany, I was inspired by how people from different backgrounds bring their perspectives, share ideas, and contribute to the city’s unique character.

Over time, New York became more than the place where I lived and worked. It became where I built my career, formed lasting friendships, and contributed to projects that support the region’s growth and connectivity.

I think becoming a New Yorker happens gradually. One day, you realize you are no longer just navigating the city; you are part of its story.
