How did you get to where you are today?

I spent the first half of my career as a transportation and infrastructure policy advisor in the U.S. Congress in Washington, DC. That time helped me learn how federal legislation, funding, and political priorities shape much of our nation’s infrastructure systems. In that role, I worked on developing and negotiating major infrastructure bills, collaborating with a range of stakeholders and understanding the tradeoffs that go into balancing national priorities with local needs. Learning how to navigate ambiguity and communicate effectively across (at times) competing constituencies helped shape my transition into consulting.

What are you most proud of?

Moving to New York City! After spending 9 years in Washington, DC and working around federal policy, I was grateful for the opportunity to move up to New York to begin a new professional and personal journey. I just celebrated my one-year anniversary, and I am happy to report that it was one of the best decisions I have made.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to work in your field?

First, focus on building a strong foundation in both technical expertise and interpersonal skills, since success in this field depends on more than just subject-matter knowledge. Early on I learned that communicating clearly about your goals, managing professional relationships, and understanding the bigger picture of your industry can be just as important to your career growth as a strong technical background. And second, be proactive and curious—seek out opportunities, take risks, ask questions, and continuously look for ways to grow rather than waiting for opportunities to come to you.

When did you realize that you are a New Yorker?

It took a few months, but I first realized when my local bodega owner remembered my name and bagel order (sausage, egg and cheese on an egg bagel). I’d rather not admit how many trips to the bodega this required, but well worth it!
