Soaking in everything from the incredible colleagues, mentors, and leaders I’ve been lucky to work with throughout my career. And saying “yes” as often as I can. Saying yes can open new doors and challenges, create partnership and empower others, and push you out of your comfort zone. 

Museums and cultural organizations are among the most essential institutions in our society. Being part of a team that supports art and artists, enriches its neighborhood and city, and inspires diverse audiences from near and far is very gratifying.

Move to New York City. The vibrancy of its art and cultural offerings are unmatched. The treadmill of opportunities, new experiences, and adventure is always on. It’s the most fun, 24/7, and exciting place in the world.

I recently celebrated 10 years in NYC and some friends commented, “now you’re officially a New Yorker.” Though it took this long to realize fully, I now understand that I’ve felt at home here from the moment I arrived. It’s the big mix of lifelong residents, transplants and immigrants, commuters, students, and tourists that makes New York, New York. This city welcomes you instantly and anyone can be a New Yorker.

I have been uplifted by those who came before me – my family, mentors, thought leaders, mavericks, and visionaries – who changed the world, and gave me the incredible opportunity to live out my dreams. Much of my work is an attempt to pay that forward to the next generation and to keep imagining and fighting for a more equitable future.

My friendships – building deep relationships requires attention, accountability, and care, but my community of friends are the most fun and rewarding part of my life!

There should always be reciprocity between you and the people who are leading you. Know your power and genius, and seek mentors who are as committed to helping you grow and are as invested in your success as you are to theirs.
